Birchbox - "Step and Repeat" Review - February 2014

My February Birchbox came while we were on our cruise! For those of you that don't now, Birchbox is a monthly subscription (cancel/pause any time) where you get a monthly box, delivered to your front door, of 4-6 high-end beauty and lifestyle samples from top brands. The best part, it's only $10/month! (and free shipping!)

Birchbox was delivered in a box covered with US Weekly logos. Within the packaging, there is always a nice little box with all the goodies. The theme this month was "Step and Repeat" and talks about the Best Picture nominees and taking great pictures with tips from US Weekly. Birchbox always includes a great information card which explains each item and the value for the full size (I post the value for the sample size).

First Look

Agave Healing Oil Treatment - This item is for your hair, which is a surprise to me as I assumed it was a skincare item just but the name (and in the "how to use" it did mention it can be used on your skin too). It is described as a lightweight oil that will build you hairs resiliency as it boosts vibrancy, shine, and color.  (~$1.00 for .1 oz sample)

Benefit Cosmetics Fakeup (in Light) - I've heard GREAT things about Benefit products but I've never used or owned any so I'm excited to try this. This is an under eye concealer and featherweight moisturizer in one lipstick type tube. It's supposed to mask dark circles and keep skin hydrated with its crease-proof formula that comes in 3 easy to blend shades. (~$3.43 for .5g sample)

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pores Refiner Birchbox sells this in a "Dr. Brandt Camera Ready Kit" but I was able to find it separately on Sephora. This product better do wonders for the cost, it's described as "An instantly effective, mattifying pore refiner." I do plan to try this out as I hate when my pores are visible!  (~$11.25 for .25 oz sample)

OPI Sheer Tints (in Be Magentale with Me) - I love OPI polishes and this is a top coat that has a little tint. I'm actually going to try to use it as an attempt to not bite my nails and if I don't succeed it won't be as obvious as a regular color. There were 4 color options and I'm so glad I got the color I did! (~$2.25 for 1/8 oz sample)

Benefit Cosmetics Big Easy - This is a brand new product (can't even be shipped until March). It is described as the next generation of BB cream that is velvety-smooth and impossibly lightweight, it works to balance oil levels throughout the day for a matte, airbrushed finish that lasts and lasts. This is what was in the white "Drumroll Please" envelope from the first look. It's such a small sample (and not in a tube - boo!) and I have no idea what "size" the sample is so this is a complete guesstimate ~$1.61 for .05 oz sample.

Total Estimated Value of Box: ~$19.54
Total Cost of Box: $10.00 (Free Shipping)

Overall Impression: I'm very happy with the box and the value was pretty good too! Not their most valuable to date, but I will at least try all of the items and that makes it a solid WIN in my book!

If you are interested in signing up for Birchbox, use my referral link. If you review each product monthly you also get credit money in the Birchbox, shop. If you review each product each month (assuming there are 5) that equals $5 so the box itself pretty much costs $5 which is a great deal!

My box was "Birchbox 59
" - if you click here and then change the last number you can see the different variations of boxes that were sent out, looks like there were 62 different variations this month.

Which box did you get this month? Did you like it?

**FUTURE GIVEAWAY** once I got 100 followers on BlogLovin' or 200 on Facebook (whichever happens first and
as of post publishing I am at 78 on
BlogLovin' and 147 on FB) - I am going to host a giveaway with all my Birchbox items that aren't things I would typically use but I know others who would love. So, if you don't already follow me on both of these site, please do!

Disclosure: This post contains referral links!

  1. FYI it's cheaper to buy the pores no more in the kit on birchbox. You get a full size pores no more along with all the other goodies for $3 less than sephora which sells it only by itself!

  2. I got the same box! I also liked it. I keep reading negative reviews of BB as I look at blogs, so it's nice to hear that someone agrees with me this month!
